Summer’s nearly here – and so is our annual Music Summer School – your gateway to 7 enriching days of music making, learning and creativity. Whether you’re a curious beginner or an emerging young musician, Sanskar offers a unique opportunity to learn, explore, and grow under the guidance of some of the UK’s leading teachers of South Asian Classical music. Join us for an inspiring week where tradition meets imagination!

What’s it all about?
This year’s theme, “A Musical Dialogue with Nature,” invites children to explore how the natural world can inspire their own music-making. From the rustling of trees to the songs of birds, every sound becomes part of their learning adventure.

Each day includes:

  • Morning yoga and meditation – to help children feel calm, focused and ready for the day
  • Guided music practice (Riyaz) – tailored to their chosen instrument or voice
  • Warm, home-cooked vegetarian lunch – plus outdoor play to recharge
  • Creative afternoon sessions – exploring sound through improvisation, storytelling, and imagination
  • Daily reflections and mini performances – a chance for children to share what they’ve learned and support each other

Special Nature Day – Tuesday 5th August
We’ll spend a full day outdoors at beautiful Kirkstall Abbey, where children will create music, sketch, write, and play in nature – a memorable highlight of the week.

Baithaks – Evening Music Concerts

Two magical evening concerts (on Sunday 3rd and Tuesday 5th August) feature world-class musicians in intimate, family-friendly performances. All Sanskar students (and a parent or friend) are invited to attend.
What can your child learn?

Children choose one of five music pathways:

  • Tabla – with John Ball and Amanpal Singh
  • Sitar – with Luke Reddin Williams and Kirtan Kaur
  • Santoor – with Eeshar Singh
  • Bowed Strings – with Simrandeep Kaur
  • Vocals – with Gunwant Kaur and Sohini Kaur

With support from specialist tutors in early years, movement, and wellbeing – and special guests like Nabeel Khan (Sarangi) and Amanpal Singh (Tabla) – your child will be learning from some of the best.

Why Choose Sanskar?

  • A fun, friendly space to build confidence and creativity
  • Taught by experienced and respected artists
  • Focuses on wellbeing, focus, and connection with nature
  • Encourages teamwork, reflection, and self-expression
