A Grand Parade to Kick Things Off
The festivities commence with the much-anticipated parade, which leaves from outside Morley Town Hall at 11:30am on Sunday 27th April. St George himself, resplendent on horseback, will lead the procession, setting the stage for an inspiring spectacle. Following him will be the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue brass band, filling the air with stirring melodies.
Young participants from local Rainbows, Brownies, Girl Guides, Cubs, Scouts, Rangers, Air Cadets, and sports groups such as Morley Rugby Club and Morley Knights Rugby Club will proudly march, showcasing the town’s vibrant youth community. The All Stars Dance Academy will also join the parade, adding a touch of grace and energy to the proceedings.
Adding to the historical flavour, WWII military vehicles and reenactors, along with members of the British Legion, will march under the direction of Parade Marshall John Huck of the British Legion. As the roads are closed for the parade, the route will take participants up Queensway, across Corporation Street, and finally up Scatcherd Lane into Morley Rugby Club.
a Ceremonial Affirmation and Official Opening
Upon arrival at Morley Rugby Club, all parade participants will assemble on the pitch for an important moment of tradition. The Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, representing King Charles, will oversee the affirmations made by the young people of Morley’s various youth organisations, reinforcing a sense of duty, pride, and patriotism. With this, the event will be officially opened, marking the beginning of a day filled with fun and entertainment.
