Morley Grief Group

Morley Grief Group

In the heart of Morley, this extraordinary grief support group has become a vital resource for individuals coping with the challenges of loss. Founded by Nicola Holdsworth, the Morley Grief Group offers not just support but a sense of belonging to everyone who walks through its doors. With over 800 members and counting, the group has blossomed into a vibrant, uplifting community.

The group’s monthly meetings are a cornerstone of its success, regularly attended by 40 to 60 people. These gatherings are filled with warmth, laughter, and understanding, creating a space that feels like sitting down with old friends over a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Members share stories, offer encouragement, and lift each other up. It’s this friendly and welcoming atmosphere that keeps people coming back month after month.

“I came to the group for the second meeting and I’ve attended ever since. I was met by Kate as I walked through the door for the first time and was welcomed by other members. I’ve been lucky enough to make some lovely friends and look forward to every meeting. We share our stories, laugh, cry and support each other. Anyone thinking of joining, please do, we all understand.”

In addition to the regular meetings, the group also hold social gatherings and fundraising events that give members a chance to get to know each other better. These varied events not only support the group’s activities but also help spread awareness about the importance of grief support within Morley and beyond.

The group’s kindness and supportive spirit extend beyond face-to-face interactions. Their Facebook community, Morley Grief Group, is equally lively and encouraging, with over 500 members. This active online space ensures that support is available at any time, keeping people connected no matter where they are. Many members who have moved away from Morley continue to stay involved through the Facebook group, sharing updates, offering advice, and remaining part of the warm and caring community.

Local healthcare professionals frequently refer patients to the group, recognising the value of its inclusive and uplifting environment. Founder Nicola’s tireless efforts have been celebrated widely, earning her the Community Award at the BBC Radio Leeds “Make a Difference” Awards.

MP Mark Sewards also praised the group in Parliament, describing it as an essential community treasure.

The Morley Grief Group is much more than a place to process loss – it’s a place to find friendship, hope, and joy. Whether you’re grieving or simply looking for a supportive community, this group is ready to welcome you with open arms and plenty of smiles.
